I notice many students criticizing UT for being too big and too impersonal. But here's another way too look at it: the real world is a big and impersonal place where most general people don't care about you until you can prove yourself to them. Consider UT training for the real world. I was quiet and shy through most of high school. Aside from what I learned in the classroom I also learned how to be assertive, organized and the importance of networking and learning from peers as well as instructors. Getting plugged in here as a transfer student was probably harder that starting as a freshman but I managed. Obviously UT is not for everyone but you also have to ask yourself is it worth paying 2 or 3 times as much for an undergrad education becuase that's about what it costs to go to a private university. Good luck, I hope this advice helps someone out there. Hook Em Horns.
