Start with the tour: Ignore everything they say. They'll say anything to get you in here and the sad fact is that if you don't have it in writing: it's not legit. I asked these specific questions: Is there alot of issues or drama between the moms in the WWC? Answer: no! they're like sisters. Real life: sisters fight. alot! Do you have special programs that my daughter and I can participate in to study abroad? Answer: yes! and funding for that as well! Real Life: I wasn't offered one "fundable" opportunity and graduated sans study abroad experience. Are the advisors helpful? Available? What about the faculty? Answer: yes! they're so helpful and involved in your education. Real life: You will need to camp outside their office because the advisors take luxury trips and are rarely there and the faculty hate this place as much as you do and avoid emails, phone calls, and being available. It's high school all over again: clicks (horse people, vet people, bio people, writers, geeks, drama kids, teachers pets, jocks, etc), constant drama and tension between students. Administration offices: won't do anything. forget enforcing the rules. You have to stay on top of the business and financial aid office because they don't have their "stuff" together half the time. Registrar doesn't wanna deal with you wanting to go abroad or create special majors- they want you to just pick four classes and forget about all the "opportunities" the admissions tour guide promised. The cafeteria: total waste of your required meal plan. The pool: closed. The coffeehouse: closed. Pretty landscaping hides the reality of this place. The president and her crew are more focused on themselves and a few LUCKY students who find favor in the right people's eyes. This is a liberal arts college and they've let their primary art building go to waste as it drips, leaks, creaks, and doesn't have upgraded equipment. Right next door is a multi-million dollar science building that has 'eco-friendly' toilets. Flush up for pee and down for poo. Really? And you couldn't spare the art building some heat and a.c.? The WWC program: run. Run far away! This program sounds too good to be true: it is. The facilities you live in have no a.c., there was a devastating flood after I graduated while moms and children were asleep in their beds (maintenance didn't keep up on the pipes), the day care center is a bunch of freshly graduated teens and 'incidents' happen ALOT, you will also be told how/what/when/where you can do anything. It's a catch 22- no freedom. They're constantly watching everything you do, fining for stupid stuff like one mom not cleaning up so EVERYONE gets fined, gossip rampant, most of these moms are here because they can't make it in the real world, few that are actually using this as a 2nd shot at college. You have to park so far away from the actual building. Shared space sounds fun- until people start stealing food and using your dishes. As far as Staff goes- the director(s) will not back you up on anything. There is the Honor Principal and the WWC- which are all ignored. If you raise an issue- you're get your hand slapped for making waves. In an instant this place changes from a lifesaver in this harsh money driven world and becomes a prison that costs $40,000. Keep looking. This college is $40K of your money. Find a better place to invest that money- you won't regret it.
