Major: (This Major's Salary over time)
After spending summer 2010 and fall 2010 at UTA i am already planning on transferring to another univesity in Fall 2011. I transferred from a DCCCD college with about 50+hrs. It was my choice because it was a very easy transfer and close to home. Because i was there in the summer i was able to land an on-campus job in the Financial Aid office. I was lucky to get that job as a transfer because i gained alot of valuable knowledge and experience other students didnt know or have access to. However, if i didn?t end up working in the FA office i would have been just as lost as many other students. The campus tours and preview days arent a good assessment of the campus. They dont tell you that this school is mainly focused on engineering, architecure and nursing and if you are any other major good luck. They dont tell you that the meal plans are worthless. They dont tell you that living in the dorms could be a complete waste of your money and that your RA's are NEVER around to assist you. They don't tell you that they are going use some of the money you pay for tuition on Ipads to give to the faculty! These are things i learned the hard way. As far as academics go you have your "hard, no BS" teachers and you have your "easy, go once or twice a week and study the evening before an exam and ace it teachers" (but that is the same for anywhere you go). When i came to UTA nursing intended they didnt tell me they were downsizing their faculty and the amt of students they'd accept to the nursing school. Or that they were raising their minimum GPA for you to even being considered to 3.75! I had a solid GPA at the time and didnt feel it was worth waiting another yr to retake courses and reapply to be CONSIDERED,so i changed my major. Now what i want to do for a major isnt offered here so i'm transferring. This school doesnt have enough majors or course offerings. Moving on... Your social life will be as fun as you want it to be or as boring as you want it to be.You have to find your niche. Because it is a commuter campus, during the day it looks like there are so many ppl and occasions to make friends but at around 3pm 70% of those ppl leave for home. So living on campus you see alot of the same faces and you start to feel pretty bored and like high school all over again with the cliques . I was a very shy person and my advice for others like me is to GET OVER IT! At some point you have to come out your shell and college is the perfect time otherwise you?ll be alone- period. So if you are coming to me asking for advice on how to make friends and you are an introvert I will tell you to change. The world isn?t gonna rub your belly and hold your hand. Make things happen for yourself. There are over 400 active student orgs but since i've been here i've seen about 10 actually being active- so that sucks. You do have alot of opportunity for leardership because of this though! 99.9% of my friends were international students. Thats a positive about the engineering program- it brings people from all over the world to this campus. Most all of the positive people are in christian orgs so for someone with alternative views like myself it was originally hard to make friends. Be careful with people who are trying to start cults and call themselves prophets! That actually happens here! Really weird. Basically, UTA is a decent school academically. I?d rate it a C+ on academics. If it wasn?t for the friends I made here I would say I wish I never came here but this place was a great stepping stone so now I am ready to move 6hours away from home. This probably didn?t help much, but that?s my opinion. : )
