I have been here for almost one month, and I cannot wait for the semester to end. I can totally relate to a recent review claiming how close-minded the student body is here. I always wanted to do the full-out big school experience, but CMU has made me hate the "traditional" college experience that everyone talks about. There is nothing to do here, but get smashed every night. Mount Pleasant or as I call not-so-pleasant has to be the most dull town I have ever spent my time in. Everybody drinks here because that is the only thing you can do here. There is no shopping...Unless, you are an avid Meijer and Jo-Ann Fabric customer. I'm not a crazy partier or drinker, so I am basically screwed every weekend. A lot of the people here go home on the weekends because they live 45 minutes away. Note: 99.9% of the student body is from Michigan. I am not. I live in Chicago, which is 5 long hours away from CMU. I can't go home, so I'm stranded in no man's land. On the education subject, yes, it's true, a lot/most of the professors here are grad students. I wouldn't even consider grad students as professors. These "professors" have no experience as teaching and lack enthusiasm. We are taught about how teachers in the world need to be more connected with their students, but CMU is guilty of doing the same. Also, CMU's faculty is on strike due to contract issues and such. I was quite enthralled to see my professors not show up the first day of class... All in all, CMU is for students who love to party and don't care about their education.
