A little background: I was an honors/AP student in high school with a hefty list of extra-curriculars and a really, really good essay. I could have gone to any number of wonderful colleges with selective admissions and reputable academic programs. I chose Pace for one reason and one reason alone: it was in New York City. I was very disillusioned and thought that I could be happy anywhere in New York City, as long as I was surrounded by the life of the metropolis. I visited Pace and was very underwhelmed, but I put a deposit down because I had a lifelong dream to move to New York and I had an opportunity to make it happen. Long story short: I dropped out part-way through my first semester. It was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I value my education too much to spend any extended amount of time at an institution like Pace. The staff is condescending and the coursework is STUPID easy. The dorms are decent, but the dining plan is over-priced and inefficient. You are literally nothing more than an ID number. They'll threaten you with fines all the time for not showing up to things like freshman meetings and convocation, but things are so disorganized that there is literally no way for them to know who goes and who stays back at the dorms. Pace wants one thing and one thing only -- money. They do not care about the quality of education you receive or how you feel about the way they run things. As long as you hand over your $54,000 yearly, you are irrelevant to them. If you absolutely must go to Pace, you should know that you will be in a safe area of the city (literally nothing happens after 6pm so it's super quiet). You should also know that you will be surrounded by a bunch of really cool people; some of whom probably wanted to go to NYU but couldn't afford it. Others had their hearts set on Pace. But I will tell you this: every single friend I made at Pace transferred out at the end of their first semester. No one wants to be there if they can help it. There are thousands of colleges that will offer you infinitely more than Pace can. If you have a choice to go somewhere other than Pace, do it. You do not want to get sucked into this awful, silly place. They'll try to lure you in with the enchanting proximity to everything in NYC, but don't fall for it. If you want four years of useless courses, unqualified professors, and dealing with the most unhelpful, rude extended staff, head on over to Pace. But if you want a college education with intelligent classmates and helpful staff, go just about ANYWHERE else.
