I transferred into Wheaton College after being medicallyBrightUndecided
I transferred into Wheaton College after being medically discharged from a military academy. I had previously been accepted, so I figured it would be easy for me to get in. I went in undeclared as a Computer Science major. The Computer Science department is supposedly a very close and personal group of people, and from what I saw, I would agree. Unfortunately, my Programming I class was very hard for me to follow, largely in part because of my professor's teaching style. Ultimately, I decided Computer Science was not right for me, and I am making plans to switch my major, as well as transfer from here. That's not to say this place is bad.

First of all, I'm from New England, and coming to the Midwest was a bit of a let-down. I'm used to being around ocean beaches, mountains, and people who tend to be live a more active lifestyle. Winter was torture for me. Students would watch hours of movies and TV series, or go driving at night to get food from fast food places--something that just didn't interest me. I made efforts to go into Chicago a lot to try to do stuff. It's a nice city and there's plenty of stuff to do, but after about 7PM the place becomes a ghost town.

The school, overall, is a good school. The only thing that really bugged me was the people. They are close-minded and self-righteous. It's heavily Christian and conservative, which isn't a problem, but many students and teachers profess to be loving Christians, when in reality, they judge everyone. People here are so worried about what others think of them that it becomes unhealthy, I think. Relationships seem to be superficial.

The facilities are generally nice (especially the fairly-new Student Center and the fairly-new Sports and Recreation Center). The food is supposedly ranked #1 in the country for best campus food, but it gets boring quick. The teachers are approachable and available, but I get the feeling that a lot of times they throw the "Christian perspective" into their lessons just to appear more holy or something.

The general education requirements are very annoying. In most cases, students have to take more general education classes than they have to take major classes.

Also, a word to the wise, do not go here if you want to go into engineering. They profess to have a 3-2 program, but it is awful. I have many friends here who went into the engineering program and have regretted it.

The internet is filtered and painfully slow. There you have it... my fragmented ideas about Wheaton. Overall, the school is pretty challenging, and well-known across the country. It's prestigious. I wouldn't suggest coming here if you're not a Christian though. Coming here I was a bit iffy, and leaving here I can say I am not a Christian. The social life is lacking, activities on campus are minimal, and it can be boring here if you don't get involved with something.

Question
I came to Wheaton expecting to absolutely hateQuite BrightHistory/Histories (art history/etc.)
I came to Wheaton expecting to absolutely hate it (long story of why I came). Needless to say, it has changed my mind. I would recommend it 100% to any thinking Christian. The other students will probably not challenge you a lot - lots of silly rich white kids - but the faculty WILL. If you want good, strong academics in a friendly environment, this is your place. It is devoutly Christian but the faculty's brains are not turned off - they make you think about your beliefs.

I have to admit that I didn't like other students very much - they are all very much 'prep' stock and have little imagination. However, I will say this: they are all extremely friendly. There is very little rudeness here, and many of the kids have warm, good hearts, even if they don't have much going on upstairs. By senior year, though, many of them have started thinking because the faculty gives them no other choice.

Yes, the drinking rules are a pain, but you know what? If you don't like it, don't come. Easy as that. If drinking is that important to you - and trust me, I do enjoy it - then make your choice. Don't come and then whine.

One word of warning: if you want to be an art student, do not come to Wheaton. Yes, it is a lovely place with genius faculty and nice kids. Will you be challenged as an artist? Absolutely not. I'm only into art as a hobby and even I could see that the art department falls way, way flat. Art critique and history classes are pretty good, but the actual art classes themselves are not worth your time. All that being said, I thought I had nothing to learn from these people. I was wrong. Keep your chin up and your mind open, and you will learn so, so much. You are at college for learning, not campus life. This school is about learning, not campus life, even though lots of freshies came here thinking it was all about campus life. If you want learning, you will learn here. The professors here have so much to teach you. You will grow - and growing is painful. But you WILL grow.

Question
The college definitely will provide you a top-notchQuite BrightArt & Design Department
The college definitely will provide you a top-notch education and prepare you to be well versed in a certain religio-political-schoarly camp, namely evangelical-republican-evangelical scholarship. Professors are all competetant and students are bright. In my four years of experience there, I learned how to state my positions from aforementioned vintage point but never learned how to engage or dialogue with those whose beliefs and orientation are different from those that the college advocates. For me, university education must take place in a diverse setting (by the way, having a lot of missionary kids and negligeable percentage of ethnic minorities are not what constitutes diversity)in which there needs to be diverse representation of thoughts and beliefs. In this regard, Wheaton falls very short. If you are thinking about pursuing fine art or commercial art (advertising, graphic, digital media, etc), DO NOT CONSIDER Wheaton. Its art department will not teach you whole lot besides providing you with tools to develop your artistic sensibilities and skills on your own. In addition, the department only has handful of instructors, one for each discipline (during my enrollment, there only were four studio professors).
