UNC Asheville has aSuper BrilliantEconomics
UNC Asheville has a fantastic academic environment, with highly accessible professors and small class sizes. There is no 'typical student' here, however. Everyone is just kind of strange. If that puts you off, stay away, otherwise come have a great experience in these beautiful mountains.

I was disappointed whenBrightUndecided
I was disappointed when I came to UNCA to find out how BORING it is. You can't easily get downtown, and there is absolutely nothing to do on campus.

Question
I am a freshman, out of state.Quite BrightAnthropology
I am a freshman, out of state. This was my first choice and overall, I'm quite pleased. Asheville is an AMAZING city with beautiful people, lots of great food (especially for vegetarians), and a lot of bikes, buses, etc. It's a very green city. We actually haven't had gas for about 3 weeks because it's hurricane season and we're between pipelines but we're doing just fine! :)

I am also impressed with the Anthropology department here. We don't have the major approved yet but we have all of the classes for it and the department seems very well developed.

My only gripe is that I'm so far from home. I thought I'd be able to handle 8 hours but after half of the semester, I still feel unrooted...like I haven't made any real connections or lasting relationships and I miss my family. Being in Governor's Hall makes it harder because my suite opens up straight outside and I don't know anyone on my hall. Asheville seems to do a really good job with roommates though-no problems there. All of the faculty has been really helpful and supportive. Some kids go off campus to party on the weekends. Local parties are within walking distance but it's not difficult to avoid if that's not your bag...
