The tuition and room/board fees for 1 year here exceed $100k. For $100k a year, I expect top notch facilities, great dining hall food, a very large gym facility, classrooms that aren't falling apart, and a better looking campus. Paying over 100k a year and expecting anything less than stellar is called foolish. It's also a slap in the face to those of us who are left paying back $45k worth of loans when your tuition in the 90s was what? $25k all in?
I was an exercise science major which was arguably not half bad. I left because I heard from a friend who graduated about the reality of paying off those hefty students loans were once he left. Regardless to say, unless you have a free ride the cost of attending here versus what you will make when you graduate is so out of touch with reality it is painful.
I had a two bad housing situations with violent and drug addicted room mates. Reslife was unhelpful and even accused me of making my room mate's habits worse. It wasn't until I brought campus police in that they started taking my complaints seriously.
This place is a cesspool of SJW activities. Spread the word to end the word? What a retarded concept. I made it a sport to mock the Black Lives Matters fools running this campus.
The president is an absent prick who sees the place as an ATM for him and his friends.
The shining beacon here are the professors. Just don't disagree with them unless you like having your grades on soft subjects docked. Do yourself a favor and avoid this school. There are much better places you can attend for both value and an education. This place is a prime example of how not to run a college. I thankfully have transferred and won't be looking back.
If you want a good idea of how horrible this place is, visit it during January or February when then school is truly covered in snow and is freezing cold. This is what it will be like for 75% of the school year. Attending this school means you will only have 2-3 months of the school year where the weather is actually warm.
The dining hall food is abhorrent. Do not eat at campus center dining hall. In my first year, I lost 5 pounds because I wasn't able to properly stomach the food. The saving grace of the food plans are the terrace dining halls. Eat at the Kosher kitchen, it's the only place where the food is moderately palatable.
The campus is a prime example of brutalist architecture from the 60s. Expect big , drab, and dreary buildings devoid of any pleasant architecture. The 2-3 months of warm weather make for a somewhat nice campus, but once the cold weather hits you'll be staying in your dorm.
And did I say dorm? Don't expect to be able to let off steam here by drinking or smoking pot. Your gestapo representative (er RA) will most likely bust you for being either too loud, drinking, smoking, or you know just being a college student. Because god forbid college students act like college students.
The only nice freshmen dorms are Boothroyd. Big rooms. Everything else is once again a drab nasty leftover of the 60s. The towers are somewhat nice. Just make sure to get a lakeside view. The terraces are absolutely disgusting. They were originally constructed as temporary housing in the late 70s. The quality shows.
Once you get old enough to move off campus (because dorms are stupidly over priced) you will deal with a town that is the epitome of liberal idiocracy. Expect 1 am closing calls at the downtown bars, townies that think they're the shit, paying for trash stickers for trash pick up, terrible slow drivers, and crack houses off of seneca street. This is ground zero for every libtard policy under the sun.
Spend lots of time going to Cornell's campus to feel what a real university looks like. Watch them have real concerts and shows come to their venues. Maybe if you're lucky you'll have someone get you into slope day because we all know Ithaca College is too cheap to even bother with getting a real concert or have a real end of the year party. Kendell day, the "unofficial off campus block party" will have cops swarming it and arresting you in the street. Visiting Cornell will make you understand what you are truly lacking at IC.
The Comm school is considered to be "the second best" in the country. This is hogwash. Don't waste your money at this degree mill. If you want to get a comm degree, go to a tier 1 school our west like USC or UCLA or go to NYU. You want to be near the action if you want to get a job in these fields.
You will not be challenged academically at this place. You will learn new things for about a year after high school. After that you will get an excellent BS in Bullshit. IC is the epitome of something trying to be something it isn't. Expect to be surrounded by other mediocre kids who have money and come from Long Island, New Jersey, Mass, and Connecticut.
