Pace University - New York

This school does nothing to help you. Your are a nuissance to the financial aid and admissions in stead of being a customer. Teachers load you with assignments especially in worthless electives. There are never any activities advertised. If you want to get involved inb antyhing you have to go wayyyyy out of your way.

Ahh, considering coming to Pace University, are we?
Well, what do I have to say about it?
Pace is in downtown Manhattan; a pretty cool place to live. Pace is basically a school for business majors and computer science people. If you're considering coming here for anything other than that you probably are either going to transfer out or be shackled to this school until graduation. You're better off in a CUNY school such as Hunter College which is half the tuition this place is.

This school tries very hard with public relations and always has new campaigns and promotions to try to get kids and transfers to come to Pace...but unfortunately the school is suffering from major deficits due to the low retention rate. Pace has high hopes for itself, and always exaggerates things. the directors of the residence halls exaggerate and over-compensate it's enthusiasm for pace because the students KNOW this school is NOT all that. Pace is a private school, it LIVES for our tuition. They charge you for EVERYTHING! (What? You locked yourself out of your room? Well we have a key in the security office...that'll be $10 just to unlock a door.) You will grow to hate the SARS office very much. They have a HIGHLY incompetent system of bureacracy in place, which in turn takes over the entire school (everything gets lost: grade changes, transcripts, change of major forms.) Many professors bitch and moan about the SARS office in every single class. The mail here takes FOREVER, the laundry room is so gross I don't even want to think about it. The health services lady forgot to sterilize my thermometer. (Oh I kid you not!)

Now, why don't I transfer? Well it's very easy: i'm here on an almost-full scholarship. My parents are basically forcing me to stay here because of this reason. If you don't get a scholarship (Most students do) than you are paying Ivy money for a NOT Ivy school. But then again, most of the kids are so rich that daddy's trustfund pays for everything. (My roommate just threw out her Versace wallet and gets a $500 "allowance" from her dad every month.) (Oh yeah, I wish i was joking, but i'm not. it's the sad, pathetic truth.)

The nightlife here is amazing; so if you are one of those kids that parties all the time, they have many local bars such as Biddy Early's and Amarok to facilitate your alcohol poisoning. Luckily, our school is right across the street from the NYU Downtown Medical Center. This is a very convenient location, as many a night has been spent asking doctors in the ER if their friend has made it out of their drunken stupor. (Again, I'm not joking.)

The security here is excellent when it comes to the shit that doesn't matter, almost to the point where you want to punch them into the face. They have many ID Checkpoints located around the building where you MUST show your ID or you CANNOT pass, although they KNOW you go to this school because they have seen you ALL YEAR! Security just to get up to your dorm room is SUCH A HASSLE, they have a "sky lobby" that you have to cross over EVERY time you go upstairs. But God forbid you come in reeking of alcohol and high off your ass (which is quite often) ......then security starts snoring at their little desk and pretends they don't see anything.

The clubs: yes, there are MANY as was previously stated in other posts. But please be advised that many of these clubs "disappear" mid-semester due to lack of interest. On paper, all the clubs sound very nice, but in reality there are not that many. The clubs accomplish nothing, and most are a waste of valuable time arguing about stupid things. (ie, "Should we have a walk-a-thon or have a candy-gram sale?")

My first impression of this school was that I was surrounded by a bunch of retards. Many of the girls are focused on superficial things, many of the boys only want one thing. I realize that this is ALL colleges and not just Pace, which is another reason why I don't find it worth it to transfer. But, honestly, i felt that no one around me had broken a thousand on their SATs. Which is sad. It's hard to find people of substance. A plus side is that the departments know you by name and so do your professors whereas in some CUNY or NYU or Columbia or even Fordham many professors do not know who you are because of the size of the classes. They have very friendly department chairs. But the music theater program is crap, according to most of my friends.

As far as the classes go: They are all right, but not that challenging. My homework assignment for my computers for human empowerment class was to write a journal, a page a week, about my experiences volunteering with children. the general requirement courses are so easy, Pace should be called Pace Community College. Be prepared for some arrogant professors who got their PhD from NYU and loooove to hear the sound of their own voice. But there are some good professors. Most of the faculty are ADJUNCT professors, though, which in my opinion is a bad thing. They do NOT have their doctorate, have no benefits, work for very little money and basically have a very pessimistic view on teaching because of that.

If you want to come here, have fun, don't drink too much, be careful who you make friends with because not all is as it seems with these rich kids, and study hard!& remember, college is what you make of it.

1st Year Female -- Class 2008

Social Life: A+, Education Quality: C-

Even if you would like to live in NYC this probably is the WORST place to get into. This is not a school this is a preschool. The students are cheating and the professors (not all of them) allow that to happen for otherwise many would have difficulties even finding the first derivative of a function. You will not learn much even if you would like. Better choose another school. A was helping with math to a guy who was applying in their famous (according their view) MBA program and they told him that if he gets 460 on the GMAT they will accept him (just to note avarage GMAT is about 500 to 550) but was quite dummy and he got only 340.This is NOT a University this is a high school from the worst type. In Europe much of the knowledge given in this university is studied in elementary or in high school. God help you if you decide on coming and studying here for you will get NYC life for about 30,000.00 per year for tuition and board.
