Positive Negative Neutral Advice
It's a pretty standard university.BrightElectrical Engineering
It's a pretty standard university. There are alot of pros and cons that come with this university, although i think my list may be similar to many other colleges.

PROS:
1.)The people here are actually really nice. I'm kind of an introvert at first meet - i'm really shy. But the people here really open up to you. They greet YOU. In michigan, this is pretty rare.

2.)The professors really do want to help. I've had some pretty shitty teachers in HS, but the teachers here genuinely care about you (or at least they're really good at acting)

3.)There are many resources ( many of them limited). By this i mean that there are alot of things to help like tutoring, offices, help centers, etc. i'll get to the "limited" part in the cons.

4.)everyone here actually cares about their studies. I found this surprising, but it's true. Alot of good athletes give up their sport to study more.

CONS:
1.) it's kinda dirty here. It might be cause buffalo is EXTREMELY poor city, so UB can't really get that many funds. But the elevators are all old, dented, and banged up (i found a condom on the ground once). There are marks on the desks, etc etc. Since I Came from a wealthy city, i was miserable until i got used to it. There are a couple of really nice places, but you have to really hunt for them.

2.) there are WAYYY too many people here. Every year, they accept more and more people than the years before without adding parking spaces, computers, or buses. The result? overcroweded buses and 30 min waiting lines to print. bring your own printer. I promise, you'll thank me later.

3.)The food here kinda sucks too. a place called C3 is the only place with decent food. everywhere else is overpriced, at half the quality. Buy the 14 meal plan, spend the rest of the money on real food

4.) So here's what i meant by limiting resources. Alot of the really nice places are only allowed for certain majors. The law library has a BEAUTIFUL lounge and study area...for law students only...same with pharmacy. Also, they have gyms here, but they're always small and packed. Even the biggest one is packed until closing time.

5.)The diversity stuff they talk about is complete crap. Yes, it's very diverse, but Minorities will hang with minorities, and americans with other americans. There is no assimilation. Also, there are alot of chinese/indian immigrants, and WOW, the indians really smell...

6.) Like I said before, buffalo is a poor city. The average salary here is 13-18k (wow...my city's avg was 121k), so alot of poor immigrants come here (for the cheap tuition). I have alot of friends who can't even afford a cellphone. It makes me feel bad about showing off my expensive cellphone+laptop+clothes

7.) Oh, and most parties suck. sausage fest all the time...Can't say for all parties though. i heard holiday parties are okay.

CONCLUSION:
If you're from (a not wealthy part of) new york and academics are your number one priority, UB could be a pretty good fit for you- the education is pretty good depending on the major. I really advise you from coming here if you're rich, or from out of state. The extra tuitoin isn't worth it. I personally want to transfer out of here. It might be different if all my friends here here, and i wasn't so spoiled to big colleges and wealth. (i'm not even gna try being modest)

Not a suitable place for someone used toQuite BrightUndecided
Not a suitable place for someone used to the city and looking for rustic charm. At Buffalo, there is a late start and a early finish to the school day. As a NYC resident, I felt disenchanted by both the quality and the low quantity of their resources. For the largest school in the SUNY system, the North campus felt outdated and cluttered. Everything looks and feels small, especially when one considers the sheer amount of students flooding the campus. In closing, city residents beware and don't expect lavish or even large computer labs, everything is painfully simple in Buffalo.
