Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I am a junior at Ohio Wesleyan studyingQuite BrightEconomics
I am a junior at Ohio Wesleyan studying Economics. The academics at Ohio Wesleyan in the sciences are brutal. There is severe grade deflation, but graduates in these fields who do well here seem to have no problems placing in great graduate schools and awesome jobs. The humanities are probably the next best area of Ohio Wesleyan. The school has been going through a lot of strategic planning lately, with admission rates in the high 40%s and low 50%s. The major push seems to be to further improve the quality of the student body and raise the endowment. On the academic site, I have not been disappointed by OWU. I think the school is fairly diverse with a lot of kids from the Northeast and abroad. One of the negative aspects of Ohio Wesleyan is that Delaware is not exactly a town that has a lot to offer. Another negative aspect of the school is that it has stringent requirements for students to keep their academic scholarships. As a result a lot of them lose them and are asked to leave, which leaves a fairly sizable portion of students (20 per year?) negative about OWU. If you are looking for a small liberal arts college, very strong science curriculum, with a lot of international students and good merit aid, Ohio Wesleyan is your school. If you are looking for a party school with great social life, I suggest you look for another school.

Question
I wanted to go to the best andQuite BrightEnglish
I wanted to go to the best and brightest university; I envisioned students who stayed up late talking about Obama's plan for the War in Afghanistan or some other intellectual subject, teachers who were nationally renown, and coursework that was focused on writing and developing critical thinking skills. To be honest, however, no such university exists outside of Berkeley, and that was too far away. So, I reformed my naive views of the world and looked for a practical school.

Washington & Lee is far too limiting: everyone is involved with Greek life and everyone drinks outside of homework. Emory, although pretty and great at academics, isn't as personal as Ohio Wesleyan, nor does its English department meet what I see in OWU's. Oberlin, although it's a very nice school, has the same problems as Columbia and UVA: it has a somewhat snooty student body with somewhat snooty faculty.Ohio Wesleyan students are friendly and helpful. They don't stay up late debating politics every night, but they do it sometimes (at least if your an honors student). The University really helps prepare the student for graduate school, and the faculty are always willing to talk to you. Granted, there are the occasional snooty students and those professors who are so boring that you regret taking the class, but every college has those.

Question
OWU is an awesome place. Not so brightBiology
OWU is an awesome place. I absolutely love my experience here! It is not for everyone. Many people come here to party and have to leave after a year or two. The science courses are really hard but the professors are absolutely engaged in our learning. Come to OWU if you are looking for a small liberal arts college, a left-leaning student body and and excellent academics. If you are looking for a big school, partying and are not so much into academics, you should look for another college.
