Though the name is not as recognizable asQuite BrightPhilosophy
Though the name is not as recognizable as other schools throughout the country, the quality of education is very high here. SMU has excellent and well respected professors in almost every department and the classes are small enough that you can actually get to know them and learn from them by talking to them outside of class.

Question
The university is what you make of it,Super BrilliantEnglish
The university is what you make of it, just like any other. In my department English, the professors' skills overshadow the talents of their students. If you want to pursue them, they will challenge you privately and offer you a world class education. There is no reason why you shouldn't come out knowing anything you want to learn, but, c'est la vie, you must take an active role.

Question
True, SMU is a good place to goQuite BrightPolitical Science
True, SMU is a good place to go to school, if you can over look the said "rich attitudes" and large investments by both faculty and campus leaders into its wholly cosmetic reputation. But why should you have to when deciding on where to spend the next FOUR YEARS of your life with a group of peers? We just learned from the man who has such an interesting life on his hands that he feels he has to dispence his advise on websites to hold an audience, that it is important not to overlook the social atmosphere- that it, infact, it is part of the education. But what my A in "social atmosphere" represents is that, yes, there is a party everynight, but if you're a down-to-earth, relaxed and good natured person who prefers not to have "daddy's money" and "the flat tire on my Denali" come up in every conversation- then that party isn't for you. And SMU isn't for you. Yes, unfortunately we have a sect of the American population that is worthless but will inherit Dad's business anyway. If you are this person, SMU would love to put you into one of its "Campus Organizations" where you almost discuss issues in order to make yourself feel cultured, when all you're really doing is spinning your wheels on frivolous, upper-class skewed points of view for four years until graduation day. But again, this is may be for you: this, after all, is a "neutral" review.
