Things haven't changed...I am reading these negative reviews and it was the exact same way 25 years ago. A bunch of rich snooty snobs and everything is about what frat or sorority you are in. Looking back, I wish I had transferred and I will never let my children go to SMU.

Question
SMU is a good school.AverageCommunications
SMU is a good school.
Education:
If you are an average student then you will be getting one heck of an education. Every professor I have taken so far has shown an interest in me and my well-being. If you do your research and ask around you can get the professor and classes you want.

Campus Life:
There are so many ways to get involved at SMU! This school heavily caters toward freshman and as soon as you are admitted you will get bombarded with opportunities to get involved. I was on community council, was officer of a club, and held down a campus job in just my first year. It can be intimidating at first but if you take advantage of your freshman status and apply for positions, I gaurantee you will make a name for yourself that will pay off when you are a senior.

Campus:
This is a gorgeous campus! Seriously, SMU has the big bucks and they go all out for celebrations. This was the school's 100th anniversary and they had fireworks, free cupcakes, and basically lit up all of Dallas Hall. The layout of the campus is great too. Not confusing and you really get the sense you are in a community. It is weird to think that by driving 15 minutes off campus, you would be in the heart of Dallas. SMU definitely has it's own vibe despite being in a big city. The weather is very nice. It can get really humid and hot near summer months, but for the most part it stays in the low 70s.

Attitude/Reputation: Southern Millionaires University. That is the title that gets tossed around a lot. The truth is... you DO NOT have to be rich to be accepted. There are definitely certain stereotypes on campus. Greek life is a really big deal. I am not a part of Greek life, but I still go to parties and i have a lot of friends who are Greek. Yes there are a lot of rich kids, yes it is a super conservative school, yes there are a lot of people in love with George Bush, but everyone is really super nice. Trust me, they have their opinions but they are not going to shove it down your throat.

Everyone is really polite and sweet. Guys hold open the door for you, teachers ask how your weekend was, and the staff get to know you really well. It must be southern hospitality. THE FRIENDLINESS OUTWEIGHS THE STEREOTYPES.

If you can't accept these groups or don't want to deal with them, then you will have a hard time getting around. Accept them, and they will accept you. They are more than what they seem. Here them out and try not to judge. If you can do this, you will be just fine. It can be a bit tricky to find the group of friends you are most comfortable with, but get involved on campus and people will be sure to find you.
