Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I was in the first graduating class ofBiology
I was in the first graduating class of women at the University of Virginia. I was awed by the powerful reputation of this school, and graduated with the inevitable hubris each student leaves with. The positives? Mt. Lake Biological Research Station, meeting my husband, meditating in the gardens on grounds. The negatives? the fraternity system, the advising system, the arrogance. Advice? An education is expensive and important. You should be supported, encouraged, and hopefully mentored. Only a chosen few, those who are exceptionally gifted and/or self-directed, will find that at this school.

I am in love with my school.Quite BrightEngineering Department
I am in love with my school. It is the perfect fit for me, and I think it has something to offer for everyone. The scenery is gorgeous. Even though most students come from Northern Virginia, 1/3 of the students are out-of-state. This gives out-of-staters a bond with each other. I loved every minute I spent at Virginia last year, and can't wait to go back. Frat parties are really fun your first year, even if you don't drink. The tradition at UVa is awesome. Everyone dresses up for football games, which might seem kind of ridiculous, but it really brings everyone together. The school is definitely competitive, especially the e-school, but after awhile you get used to it. Don't be surprised if your GPA is a lot lower than high school - but don't worry, so is everyone else's! I can see why UVa is rated as one of the top schools in the country - it's amazing!!
