Even though I'll be transferring out next semester,BrightUndecided
Even though I'll be transferring out next semester, I really didn't mind this school much. I guess it was because I've lived in Anchorage since I was born, so before I started at UAA, I already got to know a lot of the professors...it's a small city...it's not surprising if you've seen everyone from Anchorage at least one time in your life. I was happy with the professors...they didn't give out any unnecessary coursework and they all knew me by name. They were all extremely helpful. Although I myself didn't join any clubs and organizations, I know that UAA has its share of them...there are fliers everywhere for them and they all seem pretty active. The location is great for commuting, because the city is so small, the longest it'll take you to go from the other side of town to UAA would probably be 20 minutes. I live southwest Anchorage and UAA is in the east Anchorage area. The only reasons I want to leave are because they don't offer the major I want and it's definitely about time for me to leave this city...I've been here for WAY too long. So I'm off to community college in Houston to live with my sis...because I can't afford to pay for college...yet...

Question
The Anthropology program in general is pretty averageQuite BrightAnthropology
The Anthropology program in general is pretty average if you're just looking for an undergraduate degree in Anthropology. If you're specifically interested in the Anthropology of Alaska and/or the Pacific Northwest and/or Alaska Natives then the program is excellent. The professors are by and large experts who specialize in this region's history and issues.

As far as UAA as a whole - it's very clear on campus which programs have the most funding, because they have obviously better and newer facilities and buildings. The parts of campus that house many of the College of Arts and Sciences classes tend to be more run down, smaller, and older than some of the other buildings. It's very easy to fail here, because no one is going to babysit you or hold your hand. However, it's equally possible to have an amazing and enriching experience - it's very much a place where you're going to get out what you put in. The debate team is in the top 25 in the world and regularly competes with Ivy League teams. There are numerous other clubs and extracurricular activities. If you have the drive to excel then you can basically write your ticket to whatever kinds of experiences that you're looking for - if something doesn't already exist here then that's just an opportunity for you to distinguish yourself by making it happen.

Question
I was a national student exchange student fromQuite BrightAnthropology
I was a national student exchange student from USD to UAA. I asked over and over again if I was on the clear, all paperwork was finished and everything in line to go to Alaska. I was told yes. Until July came around and my financial aid wasn't coming in. No award letter of any kind. I called and called and asked what was going on but my phone call was bounced around from person to person in UAA financial aid office and student services. I found out what happened to my financial aid a week before classes started myself by navigating around UAonlines website for a few hours. I had to switch my plan and do USDs tuition to pay for classes. Not only that but UAA messed up my housing application and I did not have a place to stay after arriving in Alaska. I was forced to couch surf till I found an apartment that I had to sign a 12 month lease for and am still paying for. I could not afford my books and when I finally could afford them and rent with my financial from USD it was too late and I already failed some of my classes, which I had to drop with no refund.
