I was well-prepared in certain areas: classroom management, making bulletin boards, and teaching reading. I was completely unprepared in many others: relating to parents, creating unit plans, writing report cards, evaluating curricula, and navigating special services for students.

Because the college was not appropriately accredited, I was not able to get my state teaching license. Contrary to what the school teaches, most good private schools expect their teachers to have licenses. I had to look long and hard to find a school that would accept my undergrad degree so I could earn my Master's.

The academic work required was exceptionally easy. Most of the basic classes in my freshman and sophomore years were repeats of 10th through 12th grade. We were not allowed to ask questions, such as "why..." or "what about...". We were never encouraged to consider other viewpoints.The social life was stifling. Either you were an insider, or you were not. Students were not only encouraged, but required to tattle on one another. (If you were found to have knowledge of rule-breaking and did not report, you would also be punished.) Relaxation, outside of school-initiated busy events, was discouraged, as was spending time alone or in nature.
