Positive Negative Neutral Advice
Wheaton College is much more conservative than yourQuite BrightReligion/Religious
Wheaton College is much more conservative than your average institution of higher education. It will also be distinctly Christian because non-Christian students do not attend, and only Christian professors (who have agreed in part to a principled statement) teach there.

However, this does not mean that professors are not liberal and that students are close-minded. I found friends who were liberal, and I found professors who were extremely liberal but who greatly engaged my mind and helped widen my worldview.

People do not drink (for the most part at Wheaton). I had an awesome time socially while on campus, enjoying the wonders of Chicago and the random events on campus. If you want to drink go to a party school. I learned how alcohol is not a necessary drug for life. I honestly drink regularly, but my experience with alcohol during college helped give me a taste for finer things. I am quite happy that I didn't get wasted on Natty Ice and Keystone Light every weekend. I am thankful that my relationships with other people were not reliant on alcohol. As a heterosexual male I could engage in conversation (and relationship) with a woman without being intoxicated. And I certainly didn't need alcohol to make me comfortable enough to f*@k a woman for a one-night stand.

Yes, Wheaton is full of imperfect people trying to pretend they are perfect, but I found more people who knew they were broken and found friends who loved and supported them for who you are.

I apologize to those students who felt judged and felt miserable at Wheaton... however, just ask students around the country how they feel... all too often they feel isolated and judged as well.

One last point about the single gender room policy... I agree, it is strict and outdated. However, how often in life do you hang out with your friends in your bedroom (think about this as adults, not teenagers)? Use lounges and public spaces as much as possible and then move into apartments or houses as you become an upper division student. In summary, I found great friends who were loving and accepting of who I am, flaws and all. If you are looking for a place where there is so much more to do than drink, if you are looking for a place where some students really care about one another, if you are looking for a place to grow and learn, Wheaton is a great place for that, if you are willing to give up some of your rights as an adult for a few school years (namely drinking, smoking, and hanging out in your room with the opposite gender).

Wheaton College will definitely give you a fine education should you choose to attend. Professors are accessible and open, and professors give out their home numbers with regularity. People are generally pretty friendly, although you might get sick of the lack of a significant social scene. If you're going into music (especially singing or classical piano), and you keep up with the practicing, you will certainly become a skilled musician. Overall, this is a very good school.

Question
I transferred into Wheaton College after being medicallyBrightUndecided
I transferred into Wheaton College after being medically discharged from a military academy. I had previously been accepted, so I figured it would be easy for me to get in. I went in undeclared as a Computer Science major. The Computer Science department is supposedly a very close and personal group of people, and from what I saw, I would agree. Unfortunately, my Programming I class was very hard for me to follow, largely in part because of my professor's teaching style. Ultimately, I decided Computer Science was not right for me, and I am making plans to switch my major, as well as transfer from here. That's not to say this place is bad.

First of all, I'm from New England, and coming to the Midwest was a bit of a let-down. I'm used to being around ocean beaches, mountains, and people who tend to be live a more active lifestyle. Winter was torture for me. Students would watch hours of movies and TV series, or go driving at night to get food from fast food places--something that just didn't interest me. I made efforts to go into Chicago a lot to try to do stuff. It's a nice city and there's plenty of stuff to do, but after about 7PM the place becomes a ghost town.

The school, overall, is a good school. The only thing that really bugged me was the people. They are close-minded and self-righteous. It's heavily Christian and conservative, which isn't a problem, but many students and teachers profess to be loving Christians, when in reality, they judge everyone. People here are so worried about what others think of them that it becomes unhealthy, I think. Relationships seem to be superficial.

The facilities are generally nice (especially the fairly-new Student Center and the fairly-new Sports and Recreation Center). The food is supposedly ranked #1 in the country for best campus food, but it gets boring quick. The teachers are approachable and available, but I get the feeling that a lot of times they throw the "Christian perspective" into their lessons just to appear more holy or something.

The general education requirements are very annoying. In most cases, students have to take more general education classes than they have to take major classes.

Also, a word to the wise, do not go here if you want to go into engineering. They profess to have a 3-2 program, but it is awful. I have many friends here who went into the engineering program and have regretted it.

The internet is filtered and painfully slow. There you have it... my fragmented ideas about Wheaton. Overall, the school is pretty challenging, and well-known across the country. It's prestigious. I wouldn't suggest coming here if you're not a Christian though. Coming here I was a bit iffy, and leaving here I can say I am not a Christian. The social life is lacking, activities on campus are minimal, and it can be boring here if you don't get involved with something.
