I am in the middle of the winterBrightFine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc
I am in the middle of the winter quarter of my sophomore year, and I am on this website researching schools to transfer to. I have been considering transferring for over a year, and have finally made my decision. 'K' is not the right place for me, but that does not mean it isn't a good school.

'K' is a very very small school, and, despite Western's presence, it feels small, and so does the city. I am from a very large city (Phoenix, AZ) and I like being able to be anonymous sometimes- here, any gossip is all over campus immediately. I am also a fairly social girl- and here you are fairly stuck in the same group of people you met during freshman orientation, which is not always a bad thing, I just need more variation. The campus clears out over the weekends since a lot of people are from in-state or hide in their rooms and study all weekend. The workload is very difficult, but manageable, just don't overload! Professors are AMAZING, especially in the English department, and classes are usually interesting- though the general education requirements can be frustrating. Check out the school newspaper if you visit (2004-05), it's my baby. ;)Basically, this could easily be the right school for you, it just isn't for me. If you like to be anonymous, are really social and need a varied group of friends, plan on living somewhere other than the midwest (trust me, most people away from here do not know what kalamazoo college is) and want a large amount of possibilities in majors, consider somewhere else. Also, don't be fooled by the study abroad program- if you really want to study abroad, you can do it anywhere- it just seems huge here because every junior goes- which causes a HUGE divide between classes. If you can't speak another language well, do not want to go to a third world country or are an art major, you are basically out of program choices. Good luck! If you have questions, feel free to comment.

Question
As a Freshmen at K, I was expectingQuite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
As a Freshmen at K, I was expecting a small school that was very personal. The amount of clubs on the personal level was also a great aspect. GOing overseas will be a nice endeavor, and the coursework is challenging. THe quarters system is kind of a pain, when your friends leave for school before you do. Although not a very racially diverse school, it has friendly students, who all are very open-minded. Good luck that the community bathroom toilets don't overflow all the time. The campus is a beautiful place, and the size is nice, given that you never have to walk very far at all. The LAC's are nice, requiring you to broaden your mind every once in awhile. I'm glad I came to such an open-minded school.

Question
K-College is a wonderful college, if you planAverageBiology
K-College is a wonderful college, if you plan on going to some form of Grad school. I myself did not and still have no idea of what I would like to do with my life after college. If you are similar to me, I would not suggest coming here to find a profession. Kalamazoo College is made for people of the elite intelligence. Being mediocre in high school will not cut it here. The academic life here is more than a notion if you are not very serious about school and even then I have found that it can be overwhelming to those elite individuals. I would call this Harvard w/o the name recognition. On the positive side the people here are for the most part cool, but if you are a shy person like me, you might have a hard time finding things to do on a Friday night. For guys, the women are below average, except a few members of the sports teams. For the ladies, well women outnumber guys here so have time picking out a sucker. I'm one of only a handful of African-American students here and the minority count after that isn't to high either. So if you like ethnic diversity, good luck and if not well Mr./Mrs. close-minded enjoy K-College. The dorms are relatively ok with exception of the mens toilet in Harmon Hall on the second floor overflowing every other day. All in all students who plan on being a white-collar worker, here's heaven. Those who plan on being a content average hard-working joe smoes like me, I would reconsider and maybe apply to WMU if you like partying. I heard that's all they're good for. Well enjoy!
