I transferred to UNC because of its dazzlingQuite BrightHistory/Histories (art history/etc.)
I transferred to UNC because of its dazzling academic reputation. That was a terrible mistake. I have since learned that this reputation, while stellar, is based entirely on RESEARCH and GRADUATE PROGRAMS. If you are an undergraduate here, you are totally worthless in the eyes of most faculty. You will be herded like cattle into huge lecture classes where bored TAs do most of the teaching (with palpable resentment). The experience for undergraduates here is truly disheartening...and it doesn't get better either; even upper level classes for juniors and seniors are lecture classes with 200+ students. The professors are notoriously left-wing, and treat their classes as opportunities to indoctrinate students with their warped worldview. (Were you aware that America is evil? Don't worry, your professors will explain it to you). No matter what you may see in the glossy guidebooks, please stay away form this university!!! It's a fine place to get a Ph.D, but a terrible place for an undergraduate. I know that it is a hard school to get into, but it is depressing how UNC assembles such a smart student body and then treats them all like dirt. After all these years here, I have learned nothing of value...no one here is intersted in whether you learn or not, they just want your tuition dollars. Far from being considered one of the nation's best schools, UNC should be at the very bottom. IF YOU ATTEND UNC, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! Oh, and avoid the history program -- they hate undergraduates there.

If you're smart enough to get into UNC-CH (especially as an out-of-stater) then you should go somewhere else. Yes, the tuition is low, but remember that you get what you pay for, and this case you'll be getting a terrible, impersonal education. Almost all of the faculty seem to hate students, and do all they can to avoid contact with them. Teaching assistants teach almost everything, and most of them are resentful, and would probably prefer to be at home, working on their thesis. The school gives you absolutely no personal contact at all; undergraduates are just there to provide the tuition money that funds all the big-name research and graduate programs. Meanwhile, undergraduates are treated like dirt. Only go to UNC if you want to be somewhere where no one gives a damn about you.

Unc needs to grow up--rather than spewing propaganda and trying to convince
people that they're a good university, they should work on actually BEING a
good university. most of the faculty avoid students like the plague and seem to
have little interest in teaching. sure it's cheap to go here, but remember--youget what you pay for...
