I have been at this school now forQuite BrightAthletics/Training
I have been at this school now for four years. I am a starter on the Football team and I have to admit, we have some serious problems. The teachers here are extremely anti-sports. Our basketball team is a joke and our new coach is a pompous bastard. Why did I come to this school? I would have received a lot more recognition at Clemson or NC State and could be headed to the pros after last season. If you are an athlete, DO NOT attend UNC as they have no experience taking their athletes to the next level. The old coaches did...Dick Crum, Dean Smith etc. These new prep coaches have no clue.

I woulde advise students to think twice before coming to a large state school. Places like UNC don't exist for the students -- they exist for the professors. The faculty are MUCH more concerned with their research -- teaching is just a side-job, something they do because they have to, while praying for the day when they'll be relieved of their teaching duties. There are a ton of profs who don't teach at all -- they're just there to do research. Meanwhile, undergraduates get screwed over: way too many classes are taught by teaching assistants, some of whom can barely speak English. You may be a junior before you finally take a class taught by a professor. The message that undergraduates get here is that they don't count, thet they're not important, and that the school just needs their tuition money to finance the research professors. UNC would be a great place to get a PhD, but DON'T go here as an undergraduate! Unless you want to be treated like a number for four years, that is. It is criminal how little regard UNC has for its undergraduates -- if you want to get an education, don't go to UNC!

I am one of those out of staters...advice for the rest of you, dont come here. Registration is the biggest pain, the professors arent very interested in helping you, and the classes are not engaging. I came to chapel hill to grow intellectually, but all carolina does is beat into their students' heads that sports, greek life, and the basic southern close-minded attitudes and opinions are of utmost importance. When people say Carolina is liberal-do not believe them. It has a somewhat low tuition, but as others have said-you get what you pay for.
