Positive Negative Neutral Advice
For a school with a lot of hype attached to its name, UNCNot so brightBusiness - Management and Administration
For a school with a lot of hype attached to its name, UNC is one cataclysmic disappointment.
The faculty are arrogant and uninterested in their students or in teaching the subject matter at all. The courses are either: A.) so difficult they try to make you fail, or B.) so easy you wonder why this school is called a "Southern Public Ivy." But I think that the school gave itself that name. In addition, the Business school and other programs are notorious for not giving grades below a C so that their rankings remain high. The school is obviously very proud of their "diversity," as seen on every single thing they publish. However, there really is no real diversity here. Whites hang out with whites, blacks hang out with blacks, Asians hang out with Asians, and so on and so forth. The social scene, along with being severely segregated, is a bit lame. Greek life dominates too much of the student body and frats and sororities are notorious for coke use. Chapel-Hill also tries to make itself seem like a "college town" but its not. It isn't Athens, Georgia and this isn't UGA. The town hates the school and the tension between them is almost as bad as the tension between the whites and the blacks on campus.

Question
I came as an out-of-state student and feelNot so bright
I came as an out-of-state student and feel the extra cost was not worth it. The school is huge, people tend to hang out with their in-state high school friends so making friends is a bit tough at first. Most of the faculty as tops in their fields but hard to connect to (some were great). You are a number at this school and this is the part that the advertising is not honest about.

Not everyone here is supersmart and at times I wondered how in the world they got here. The school tries to represent the entire state of NC so some folks come from substandard high schools. If you are not in the honors program or have a lot of AP credit, you will be in HUGE classes the first two years which can be depressing. The science classes number in the 100's and labs are crowded. If you are not into bigtime sports, the environment can be a bit tiresome. However, the school is so big, you can, with work, find a good number of people to be friends with.

Question
People are really snooty.BrightPreMed and Medical
People are really snooty. It is a rather large school but if you are a minority it will feel like a small school because people are nosy and superficial. Classes are huge.
