Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I am a cinema and photography major.BrightFine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc
I am a cinema and photography major. I have to say for the most part, I enjoy my classes and the teachers are really friendly. Just a heads up for perspective students, you have to take 30 liberal art credits outside your major. While you do get involved in your major from the start, you are still taking a lot of classes outside your major. It can seem like a lot, especially when you are passionate about one specific thing. However, it does give you the chance to find a minor and gain a new interest in things.

Another aspect, I am not particular fond of about my major is that it is duel cinema and photography. You will be taking cinema classes along with photography classes. I myself am not really interested in learning and analyzing film, but since my major is combined I am required to take film classes. It is just another thought to keep in mind. I have to say, I do enjoy my photography classes so far.

As far as the campus goes the view of Lake Cayuga is unbeatable. If you are looking for a pretty campus, this definitely is one of the major perks of this college. The college campus is also on the smaller side, but with the layout and view it doesn't feel small like some schools. The dorm rooms of the campus are on the smaller side, but that is more less the same with most schools.

If you are planning on visiting Ithaca College, it is important to make sure you visit in the winter! I am used to snow, but if you are one to get seasonal depression it can be rough. The winters are cold and the sky is grey a lot of the time. However the summers are beautiful, and you can swim in the gorges! They don't call Ithaca is Gorges for no reason.

I personally wouldn't call Ithaca a party school. Like every college, there are people who drink and smoke, but there are other things to do then just party. Unfortunately, parties get shut down really early and there are no frats. If you are someone who likes to party hard, I don't know if Ithaca is right for you. I'm not saying there aren't some wild parties at moments, but its not an every weekend kind of thing.

Finally, the social aspect of Ithaca college. My personal experience so far is I have had a hard time making friends at Ithaca and I certainly would not call myself an anti social person. Friends for me are very important part to my happiness and I just have had a hard time finding solid connections. I have made one or two, but nothing that has made me feel like I had a little family on campus. I sometimes feel isolated in my dorm. However, I see people who seem to have made great friends. I really believe it all depends on the luck of the people on your floor and in classes/ clubs. Good Luck on the college decision process. Ithaca has some really good positives and negatives. College is of course what you make it, but just choose the aspects of the school that are most important to you!

Question
I grew up on the west coast andBrightBusiness - Management and Administration
I grew up on the west coast and wanted to attend college "out east". Long-story short, I ended up at IC and love it. Sure the winters are long and cold, but I like my classes and teachers and have a made a lot of friends here, so it's all good.

I think that most students who write negative reviews on this site have issues they are working out, so venting on this site helps them sort it all out. I also think that most students who like IC don't take the time to write a good review because they're too busy studying and hanging out with their friends and getting involved. I am in my second year in the Business School and am glad I attend IC.

Question
So let me tell about myself because mostAverageCommunications
So let me tell about myself because most people at Ithaca are not as "normal" as I would like to consider myself.(not saying anything wrong with that). I was very social in high school, I played sports but didn't wish to continue in college(if you want to play a sport at Ithaca you can for the most part) and yeah idk just pretty normal you can catch the drift. I would say if the university i went to offered greek life I would join in a second.

Now academically if you like attention ITHACA IS A GREAT PLACE ACADEMICALLY. I did poorly my first semester and the next semester simply went in to my teacher's office hours a few times a week and earned a 4.0. If you want to spend the time to earn grades you will earn them just make sure you go in and see your teachers.

so socially there is no greek life. THE PARTYS ARE TERRIBLE. It is just small houses that let in crazy amounts of people. I've been to over 50 parties and have maybe once seen a form of a dance floor in one. It is just really crowded houses of drunk people talking. I've been able to make a lot of friends because of my social skills so I usually don't have a hard time getting in(everyone will at some point). but this is the worst part, you won't get into any remotely "cool" party unless you know people. Most of the houses that have party are owned by people are sports teams. If your not an athlete your social life is likely to suck. If you like smoking pot good cause that will be your friday and saturday nights. (hence great school for SERIOUS pot heads, if your a poser you'll lose your image of yourself quickly)

so if your looking to have the sweet typical frat life social experience don't make the same mistake I did ITHACA IS NOT FOR YOU.

most of the girls thirst for athletes ridiculously, really hard to get girls if your not a athlete.
i guess it'd be a different experience that i wouldn't know about if i was an athleteso yeah my typing sucks im not that stupid just lazy
