Academics at Marist is a joke.Quite BrightCommunications
Academics at Marist is a joke. There is not a single class that Ive taken so far that I would consider challenging. interesting or of any value whatsoever. Most of the students miss at least 7 or more classes and get by just fine. And, Most of the faculty are pitifully underpaid adjuncts that have either retired from some other industry. So don't pay any attention to the self-promoting crap on Marist's webpage because it is misleading including the claim that there are 800 faculty members because over 500 of them are part-time and teach only one class. My sister goes to a SUNY school where every single professor that she has is full time and has a PhD. This compared to Marist where I has a couple of teachers that only had bachelor's degrees. I swear, half the students are like the special ed kids in my high school.

The Campus at Marist is beautiful, no doubt about it, and they must spend a large percentage of our tuition keeping it that way. The surrounding area however ..... well be warned because it's unsafe and several people that I know have been victims of robbery and/or sexual assault ...... so BE WARNED!!! Several times a semester we get emails from the campus safety people informing us of a crime on a Marist student. Do not go outside your dorm or on the streets of Poughleepsie because it is NOT safe, especially for females.

Oh yeah, another thing is that Marist is over 60% female. We all look like a bunch of Stepford wives ..... pretty, cute, overdressed, and not too bright.

So, in conclusion .... if you want to party go to Marist, if you are looking for an easy school go to Marist. If you are halfway serious about school and want a challenge .... go somewhere else.

Question
What you are shown in the tour isQuite BrightOther
What you are shown in the tour is very different than what marist is actually like. First the pros: it's pretty, and the professors do try and help a bit. Cons: it's just an extension of high school. There were very few classes offered in my major, and most of those were only offered to juniors and seniors, which means that I spent a lot of money for a semester of electives. The same 3-4 professors also teach all of the classes. The social scene is fine if you like to smoke weed and party every day. Most of the people are fake and act like they are still in high school, and because the surrounding city is awful you are essentially trapped on campus if you don't have a car. They don't even have a shuttle to the train station, grocery store or mall. No shuttles at all. Don't waste your money. I have transferred to another school and have already learned more in 3 weeks than I did in two years at Marist.

Question
I attended Marist my first semester as aQuite BrightUndecided
I attended Marist my first semester as a freshman and hated absolutly everything about the experience except the fact that I came out with a best friend - who also hated it and transfered out the same time as I did.

Maybe the school just is not meant for people from Connecticut that are lacking the New York mentality, but of the 6 kids I knew from Connectut that were in the same graduating class as me, only 1 is still at the college.

I liked nothing about the people there. The students were all prissy boys and girls who had to have everything their way. They were very high maintenence. My roomates had tiffanys ordered and called their parents to have them left under their pillow for when they came home for a weekend.

Also, I wasnt a fan of this, but I know some people are. It is a bar school. everyone goes to the bar from tuesday through sunday and maybe takes monday off. If even. Plus its big money. You need to pay for taxis to get to eh bar and back plus you need to pay to get in once you are there and then for drinks later.

Also, office hours were hard for me to find. I attend the university of connecticut now and office hours couldnt be more helpful or easier to find. It makes Marist look horrible.

The food is horrible as well. I had to spend alot of money eating out because the schools food was unacceptable basically if your not from NY your not accepted
