This is a terrible place for graduate students. No support, no money, professors don't care when you graduate. I know some people -- many of them -- still in graduate programs after 4-5 years for a master's. Professors also don't care about real life concerns (family, ability to get a job/advance academically after masters). Also not enough money to provide graduate students with financial support. You're left flailing about on your own, doing everything by yourself with no support from your professors.

Alumnus Male -- Class 2000

As a junior in high school, I applied to kent state looking to save money and to grow intellectually as a person. Boy, was I wrong. The first couple of weeks there went fairly well, however, kent's true colors came out. First, most of the professors don't really want to do their jobs. You basically have to teach yourself and/or buy extra resources to learn the curriculum of the class you are taking. Second, faculty is the hardest to get into contact with. Most people there don't reply to emails or answer phone calls (so, you'll just be up a creek). Lastly, there is absolutely NOTHING to do in kent! the surrounding town is a trash heap with zero to no activities. Unless, you know someone who knows someone who sleep with someone in a frat or sorority. Then, you MIGHT get invited to a party (the Greek system is very closed and controlling group here). So, in all, I regret ever hearing of this university. I have finished my first year here and am looking to transfer as soon as possible. And, P.S., please take this review to heart, I do love to learn and for the most part I do love school. It's just, this place is not a good university AT ALL.

My overall experience with the university has not been pleasant. I have attending the Tuscarawas Campus, Stark Campus, and Kent Campus and all three are pretty horrible. There are a few exceptions of course. I have had a few good professors at the school and I think certain majors are set up well but overall I have been very disappointed with my experience at Kent and am transferring next year. The positives are there are a few good professors, parts of the campus are very attractive, and I have felt relatively safe on campus. The negatives are some professors are a joke (in my case 90% have been), the town has NOTHING to do (not to mention there are very few restaurants), and I have had horrible experiences with the faculty. Many advisers have given me wrong information and had me in the wrong classes my freshman year, I was wrongfully accused of plagiarism my sophomore year (long story but to sum it up, I did not quote the definition of DNA even though I had written clearly where the source was from and the professor could not spell "plagiarism" correctly), and I did not feel like the student body was particularly friendly. I would not recommend Kent to any of my friends. I am sure some people are reading this and think I am exaggerating about how shitty the school is but I really am not. I think that maybe for certain majors that the experience is great but I have learned close to nothing in the past few years. I am going to OSU this summer and starting over my college career. Kent's classes are not worth the cost you pay, you get NO individual attention, and overall I felt like the experience was not worth anything. I am miserable and depressed. I am extremely bitter and I am only 21. I feel like I wasted the last 3 years of my life and am doing everything I can to change this and just get away from the school. Take my advice and look elsewhere.
