The Anthropology program in general is pretty averageQuite BrightAnthropology
The Anthropology program in general is pretty average if you're just looking for an undergraduate degree in Anthropology. If you're specifically interested in the Anthropology of Alaska and/or the Pacific Northwest and/or Alaska Natives then the program is excellent. The professors are by and large experts who specialize in this region's history and issues.

As far as UAA as a whole - it's very clear on campus which programs have the most funding, because they have obviously better and newer facilities and buildings. The parts of campus that house many of the College of Arts and Sciences classes tend to be more run down, smaller, and older than some of the other buildings. It's very easy to fail here, because no one is going to babysit you or hold your hand. However, it's equally possible to have an amazing and enriching experience - it's very much a place where you're going to get out what you put in. The debate team is in the top 25 in the world and regularly competes with Ivy League teams. There are numerous other clubs and extracurricular activities. If you have the drive to excel then you can basically write your ticket to whatever kinds of experiences that you're looking for - if something doesn't already exist here then that's just an opportunity for you to distinguish yourself by making it happen.

Question
This is a school filled with people thatAverageOther
This is a school filled with people that are in the military. Generally very conservative. A lot of people carry guns. Even a few professors conceal carry. The aviation program is in shambles. Good luck getting through that program without much waiting and wasting mucho dinero. They are over extended, do not have enough planes to train in, can not fix the ones they have in a timely manner, do not have enough full time instructors and are generally unreliable. Should I mention the lack of any sort of dress code that is adhered to or the unprofessional language. There is also the liberal bashing and poor attitudes towards minorities that is most likely perpetuated by the pervasive military presence. If you are patient and don't care about spending tons of money, this is a great school!! If you like the outdoors, this is a great place to go to school, otherwise look somewhere else.

Question
Aside from accepting me as a declared chemistryQuite BrightChemistry
Aside from accepting me as a declared chemistry student and then dropping the chemistry program mid-way through my degree, this university shows a complete lack of THINKING about its students. I pay about $2000 for one semesters worth of a pathetic excuse for a "meal-plan" and yet go to sleep hungry because of the AWFUL hours of operation for EVERY on campus food source. A student shouldn't have to make their entire scholastic schedule revolve around what times their university serves food. The teachers are very diverse; some teachers are phenomenal and others are so awful that I can't possibly grasp how they have a job. Two of these awful teachers are Kennish and Lawton. Both teachers care NOTHING about their students learning the material and it is very clear. My recommendation: find another university.
