Awesome school and super nice people.Quite BrightBiology
Awesome school and super nice people. All of my professors (with the exception of a couple of professors in the math department) have been excellent so far; they're always willing to take time to help you understand the material and want you to do well. If you love the outdoors and friendly, down to earth people then this school is for you. Only downside is that a lot of the students smoke and drink a lot but I guess that's like any college.

Question
I am from WNC so I knew theQuite BrightPolitical Science
I am from WNC so I knew the Asheville area coming in. I screwed around in high school and ended up with a 2.8 gpa from never doing homework and studying for a test maybe twice. I had a decent SAT which got me another chance.

I was accepted to Alabama, FAU, FIU, and Arizona State and recieved scholarships from the last 2. I love the Crimson Tide and Bama was my dream school. However, after not trying in high school I felt I didn't deserve to go to such a place until I earned it. So in JUNE after graduating, I applied to UNCA and was accepted no problem.

The academics and professors here are actually very good. They make sure you learn and show it, I have had almost no multiple choice tests. The main problem with UNCA is the social life. People literally will avoid talking to you. Where I come from you say hi to pretty much everyone, hold doors for people especially women, etc. Here people just try to avoid all contact. I try to talk to people in louge areas and they get all uncomfortable. There have been 3 people that could actually have a conversation.

I lived on campus at first but switched to commuting because I was miserable (South Ridge is the most anti-social dorm). Also, school spirit is absent. Having no football team I can kind of understand it but even our basketball team gets almost no support. There are MAYBE 20 clubs, most of which are LGBT or other rights movements. The majority of people here are tree-hugging super liberals. I have no problem with liberals at all, but anyone extreme is just annoying. I wouldn't want to hang out with super-right wing people either. BTW the "diversity" people are so proud of here, is not diversity. Diversity means lots of differing people, here its just alot of wierd people.

I was accepted to numerous top ranked universities and I visited dozens of campuses before deciding to attend UNCA. I am from the west coast and in my opinion if word ever gets out about this beautiful quaint little town and college, it will be inundated with students from that region.
