I absolutely loved myBrightComputer Science
I absolutely loved my time at SMU. During my time I made amazing friends, explored the globe thanks to how cheap flying in/out of DFW is (seriously, take a few days off here and there to travel while you can), learned from super helpful faculty and finished with an amazing job.

Question
Let me start by saying that this isAverageEngineering Department
Let me start by saying that this is the most beautiful campus w/ the most beautiful women that I have ever seen. Although, if your family doesn't make 250,000$+ a year, you will stick out like a sore thumb and will not be able to access the social life that is mostly Greek driven here. The people are rude and snobby and there's definitely a tiered social class and it is a ethnically divided campus. I come from very humble begginnkngs and transferred from a community college. Granted community college was easy, SMU is not much more difficult, but the lectures and professor help is horrendous. They don't teach you anything and I feel left behind because most of these students are from well-to-do families that went to privileged high schools. Also, I should note that I'm a white male and I absolutely hate the vibe this place has. The faculty and advisors are horrible and it's true that this place is white washed elistists whites/asians. If you have the option to go to a different school and your major isn't business or law, then do it. For normal people who come from normal average income families this place will eat at you. Honestly, the only people that I have talked to that love this place are from dallas or can afford to be part of Greek life and drive brand new Mercedes and BMWs. My advisors started me off with 15 credit semester, but 7 classes and said it was normal. Every single individual and staff member told me that it not and because of it my GPA is wrecked. If you don't believe me come here for a day and you will see what I am talking about. The students body is book smart, but completely lack common sense and other traditional skills. IF YOU ARE RICH WHITE AND A PUMPKIN SPICE DRINKING LEGGING WEARING WOMAN COME HERE. IF YOU ARE A RICH,CHUBS AND POLO WEARING GUY COME HERE. IF YOU SHOP AT NOTHING BIT VERSACE AND LV COME HERE.

Question
I'm from Dallas (lived in highland park) andNot so brightBiology
I'm from Dallas (lived in highland park) and SMU was the most socially miserable experience of my life and I regret the years (and money) I wasted as a full-time student there. So, after 3 years of disappointment, I transferred out and graduated from another University. Do not believe the FAKE 5-star Yelp reviews!

If you can imagine one place in the world where subtly-prejudiced, greedy, selfish, materialistic-back-stabbing-entitled folks can conglomerate, it would be Southern Methodist University. Do you want to be judged by the clothes on your back or what is on top of your head instead of what is in your head? If yes, SMU is perfect for you.

Before I graduated high school, I had traveled the world, lived in different countries, and spoke 3 languages. SMU's recruiter seemed great when he visited my high school and convinced me it was a good fit for me. Also, SMU's brochures and website looked welcoming and the pictures of students smiling together looked inclusive to me. I WAS WRONG!

After spending time with SMU students, the people I met at SMU felt like a downgrade from high school... like I had been demoted to some clique"y" middle school.

Seriously, I've never met so many insecure and pre-programmed-robotic-no-personality people in my life. Greek Fraternity Life was incredibly stupid...and there's a rich history of bigotry that is hidden from the public.

To this day I can confidently, SMU is still the place where low-class-trashy "kids" congregate who value material possessions more than integrity (or basic human compassion). Oh, and don't get me started on the amount of students there who are on some kind of psychiatric meds... not to mention the total CRACK HEAD druggies who look and act like clean-cut "do-gooders" during the day.

Greedy and backstabbing: My parents headed (and funded) a research project to SMU when I was a new student there and the professor eventually stole the idea and research work, and a lawsuit ensued...and this professor didn't win. Why would any professor of a University have the audacity to steal and cheat their partners who also are funding them? Because they're part of Southern Methodist University. It's a good example of the "dishonesty with a smile" type of people you'll meet here.Go to ANY OTHER University if you care about your future.
