Positive Negative Neutral Advice
The campus is beautiful and the financial aidBrightHistory/Histories (art history/etc.)
The campus is beautiful and the financial aid program is phenomenal, but other than that, this school has nothing going for it. It's competitive to the point where you can't get into the classes you need to graduate, faculty members treat you like a child, which isn't surprising since msot of the students are children who drink too much, and all they hand out is busywork. I am going into teaching and I could have gotten the exact same credentials from another school, paid half the tuition, and done half the busywork. Student housing is disgusting. I had to take cold showers for 6 months because the hot water never worked. If you want descent housing you have to apply to be in a special program and take an extra class, and it costs the same as the crappy housing. I have also had legitamite complaints on several occasions regarding staff members who don't do thier jobs as well as one who kept a barking dog in the dorms. Each time I complained I was told I was being rude and in one instance, I was forced to appologize to someone for being "rude" to them because they made a mistake that almost cost me my entire degree. They think that just because they are staff members that I should be required to show them respect regardless of whether they are doing thier job or not. I don't pay them for that. I transferred from a large community college and never had any major administrative problems. Here I had them at least once every semester, if not more. Even if I went out of my way to send emails, fill out paperwork, and communicate with people I always had problems getting into classes, dealing with housing problems, financial aid and everything else you can think of. I can't figure out why such a small school can't communicate with one another and make things run more smoothly. The social life is very cliquy and I had a hard time making friends with students because I am a few years older and could not relate to a bunch of 18-22 year olds. I missed having more people my age as classmates. My health also got bad because I was so stressed out all the time. The workload is just insane. Overall, I would not recommend this school to anyone. The University of Richmond doesn't offer anything that another school can't give you for less money and less stress. I feel my time here was a waste.

Question
Richmond is one of my favorite places inQuite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
Richmond is one of my favorite places in the world! After two years going to this school, I couldn't imagine going anywhere else.

The academics are great all around; you will receive a unparalleled education here. Professors are amazing and always very helpful. And they truly try to connect with you on a personal level; professors at Richmond truly care about their students. Every single one of the professors I've had not only knows my name, but also knows me personally.

As for the social aspects of college, there's something for everyone as well. To be sure, partying is a major aspect of social life on campus for both Greeks and Non-Greeks. Basically every organization WILL have parties. But other than the Greeks and a few other groups partying is not the main activity.

Speaking of Greeks, it is unnecessary to get involved with Greek Life on campus. It's prevalent, but not very exclusive (we don't have houses, just meeting buildings/party rooms). If you do join, you'll have a blast; but if you don't you won't feel left out as long as you are involved in other areas. Finally, if you're looking to study abroad, this is the school to go to. Richmond has a TON of programs all over the world, and pretty much every major encourages it. And everybody goes; about 70% of my class will be studying abroad this fall

Question
The University of Richmond was the only liberalQuite BrightChemistry
The University of Richmond was the only liberal arts college I applied to. I figured that I would benefit more from a larger, more well known university, but I am glad that I was lured in by the great financial aid at Richmond and the scenic campus.

Richmond is a great place to learn and grow. Professors give individual attention to students and the curriculum is designed to encourage critical thinking. One of the aspects I liked most about UR was the undergraduate research program, particularly in the sciences. It is very easy to get involved in research even as a freshman. Originally, I started off as a premed student, but after the my research experience I was turned on to graduate school. The undergrad research experience really gives students a competitive edge for grad school, too, with student co-authored publications in major journals not being uncommon. The premed program here is also very good, and many of my friends got into medical school without a problem.

I was also impressed with the humanities classes I took and felt I learned a lot in the small classes. Everyone got a chance to talk and discuss their viewpoints and the professors were very good in facilitating discussions.

Although I only took one course from the business school -intro to microeconomics- it was well taught and interesting. The business school at Richmond also has an outstanding reputation.Overall, I would highly recommend the University of Richmond, especially if you are interested in science, medicine, or business.
